"I have to say, 'Commitment and Discipline' was a joy to write, rehearse, and gig (and a few of the songs remain in the set to this date). I'd been looking forward to being back to recording with a full band (the last time I had was in 1999 with my old band, after we'd come out of our deal with Roadrunner!).

"I think with hindsight though, some of the songs were played perhaps a tad too fast (something that's been 'corrected' in live performances - thanks, Martin). But, if I remember right, I think there was an air of "we've got to get something out NOW" - which from experience can often force a below par release!

"But 'Commitment and Discipline', for its faults is still a great step in the journey of LS finding its sound and feel (and fan base)... Live, we were gaining a good reputation and I wanted us to bring that over to the record... and the songs were (and still are) some of my - and the fans' - favourites.

"Unfortunately, the album was released in the midst of an awful time. Something changed...

"And so, with huge thanks to Chris Tuke and Neal Spowage coming on board just as I was about to take Luxury Stranger on a European tour supporting The Chameleons, Luxury Stranger was able to promote the album fully and sell out of physical copies before we'd finished the tour!

"We played a string of seriously powerfully emotive and theatrical shows - it was a corking time (despite some mysterious events)! But what a relief to get it done and done right... Sure, it was a messy time (make-up, face paint and sweat staining everything along the way) but it still felt 'right' and I think the camaraderie on the tour made it 'right' too...

"I also think 'C&D' and the events that surrounded it enabled me to write songs like Empty Men and Frozen which would help guide me to the sort of stuff being written for LS to this day. I think the time around 'C&D' helped me have such a positive and progressive outlook with Luxury Stranger from then onwards, no matter what or who kicks it in the nuts, out of the blue..."
